Summit Development Group's Team
The SDG team has over 100 years experience in banking, and financial institutions ("FIs") in Africa and emerging market with a track record of delivering transformation and attractive returns to shareholders. SDG's management and board bring together the best of global and local expertise in African banking, micro finance, SME banking, mortgage finance, people development and social development. The SDG team consists of a core group of professionals and a broader talent pool that is drawn upon for placement into underlying investee FIs and other specific assignments.
Core Team:
The Core Team manages the investment process, recruits additional management to investee FIs, catalyses the process of transformation and adds value to group companies.
- Peter Hinton - CEO. Formerly of Enterprise Banking Group, African Banking Corporation and CDC. He has 25 years commercial experience, including 17 years in Africa, with both financial institutions and SMEs.
- David Kuwana - Transformation and Operations Director. Formerly with Standard Chartered, BCR Bank and Anglo American. He has 25 years experience in HR, SME/commercial banking and Africa.
- John Bainton - Transformation and Operations Director. Formerly of UBS, ING and Bank of Ireland. He has 25 years international experience in operations and banking.
- Caspar Sprokel - Investment Director. Formerly of Enterprise Banking Group, ABC Bank, FMO, and ING. He has 18 years experience in Africa, financial institutions and SMEs.
- Kiendel Burritt - Investment Director. Formerly of Africap Investment and United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF). She has 18 years experience in Africa and microfinance, and banking the unbanked.
- Karina Wong - Investment Associate, formerly JP Morgan and NGOs. 10 years combined experience in SME development, microfinance and finance.
SDG Talent Pool & Partners
As part of our business model, SDG will work with a Talent Pool of senior banking professionals and Partners to deliver expertise and support the investee FIs in specific technical areas of transformation. This allows our model to be cost effective and for our investee FIs to have access to a wider group of experienced professionals and technical experts that can meet their specific needs.
SDG's Talent Pool and Partners will be drawn upon to implement different aspects of the FI transformation, either as members of the senior management team in the FI or as third party consultants delivering expertise in areas such as credit, risk management, SME lending etc. SDG's Talent Pool can also been drawn upon for specific assignments throughout the investment process such as due diligence, board representation at underlying FIs and other investment activities.
- Talent Pool - SDG has an extensive network of over 40 high calibre bankers and professionals who can be placed into underlying investee FIs in senior management positions as FI employees. The Talent Pool professionals typically have at least 15 years of experience in banks both internationally and in Africa and can provide targeted technical expertise to investee FIs in the different transformation areas.
- Partners - SDG has entered into strategic partnership with operational technical partners that can provide low-cost, high quality expertise in areas such as banking operational, IT, HR and cultural change.
